Remember - the whole goal of this exercise is an environment of repeated readings. Thus - rehearsal must be encouraged. It is the rehearsal that gives purpose and hopefully enjoyment to repeated readings.
After assigning the parts, have the students highlight their scripts. This makes it easier for them to see their part coming up.
Have students read their parts silently or aloud to themselves. Encourage student to actively look for words they cannot pronounce. Quietly help them with the pronunciations.
Now - have the teams read and practice their parts. Encourage students to think about expressions. How is the character feeling? How can the student use their voice to convey those feelings to an audience?
If this is a quick performance for the class - 3-4 rehearsals will increase reading fluency. However, if the performance is for an audience - then the performance should be rehearsed at least once
